What is ASF?
ASF stands for Advanced Systems Format. ASF is an extensible file format designed to store synchronized multimedia data. The advantage of ASF format is that you may begin playing your video file before it is streamed to the end. Instead of specifying how (i.e. with which codec) the video or audio should be encoded, ASF does more in the structure of the video/audio stream which is quite similar to the function performed by the AVI, QuickTime, or Ogg container formats. ASF files specify the structure of the audio or video stream, but not the encoding method. ASF is most commonly used for streaming media purposes. Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media Video (WMV) are the most common file types contained in an ASF file. The ASF specification has been submitted to the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) for consideration. Note that the file extension abbreviations are different from the codecs which have the same name. An ASF file consists of three objects: a Header object containing information about the file itself, a Data object containing the media streams, and an optional Index object that can help support random access to data within the file. They often contain Windows Media Audio (.WMA) or Windows Media Video (.WMV) data. Files of ASF format support playback from digital media servers, HTTP servers, and local storage devices. The Advanced Systems Format (ASF) is the file format used by Windows Media. They can be compressed using a variety of video codecs. It supports scalable media types and stream prioritization; as such, it is a format optimized for streaming. It supports data delivery over a wide variety of networks and protocols while still proving suitable for local playback.

What is 3GP?
3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some 2G and 4G phones. Audio imported from CD onto a PlayStation 3 when it is set to encode to the MPEG-4 AAC codec will copy onto USB devices in the 3GP format. The 3GP file type is primarily associated with '3GPP'. Most 3G capable mobile phones support the playback and recording of video in 3GP format (memory, maximum filesize for playback and recording, and resolution limits exist and vary). Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide uniform delivery of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices. The MP4 and the AVC file format specifications described usage of MPEG-4 content in the ISO base media file format. These extensions were registered by the registration authority for code-points in ISO base media file format ("MP4 Family" files). 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks. Some cell phones use the .mp4 extension for 3GP video. The Nintendo DSi supports .3gp on an SD card. A 3GP file is always big-endian, storing and transferring the most significant bytes first. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate. For the storage of MPEG-4 media specific information in 3GP files, the 3GP specification refers to MP4 and the AVC file format, which are also based on the ISO base media file format.
