What is OGV?
Developed by the Xiph.org Foundation, the OGV filetype is a filetype commonly used for bitstreaming and lossless file storage. The OGV file extension was created based on the OGG filetype and is specifically associated with video files, but the names OGV and OGG are used interchangeably. The predecessor On2 TrueMotion VP3 was originally a proprietary and patent-encumbered video codec developed by On2 Technologies. VP3 video compression can be decoded using Theora implementations, but Theora video compression usually cannot be decoded using old VP3 implementations. Theora video streams can be stored in any suitable container format. Most commonly it is found in the Ogg container with Vorbis or FLAC audio streams which provides a completely open, royalty-free multimedia format. It can also be used with the Matroska container. Theora is an open and royalty-free lossy video compression technology being developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation as part of their Ogg project. Based upon On2 Technologies' VP3 codec, Theora competes with MPEG-4, WMV, and similar low-bitrate video compression schemes. Xiph.Org, the developers of the OGV format, provide a DirectShow codec pack that enables software developers to include support for OGV files in both open-source and commercial applications. Although not achieving this goal, the improvement in the measured PSNR and the perceived quality is considerable. Theora supports intra-coded frames and forward-predictive frames, but not bi-predictive frames which are found in H.264 and VC-1. It began as a 2006 Google Summer of Code project, and it has been developed on both the Nios II and LEON processors.

What is 3GP?
3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some 2G and 4G phones. When transferred to a computer, 3GP movies can be viewed on Linux, Mac, and Windows platforms with MPlayer and VLC media player. Programs such as Media Player Classic, K-Multimedia Player, Totem, RealPlayer, QuickTime, and GOM Player can also be used. 3GPP is worldwide standard for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks. The 3GP file type is primarily associated with '3GPP'. 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks. It also contains descriptions of image sizes and bitrate. 3GPP allowed use of AMR and H.263 codecs in the ISO base media file format (MPEG-4 Part 12), because 3GPP specified the usage of the Sample Entry and template fields in the ISO base media file format as well as defining new boxes to which codecs refer. Some cell phones use the .mp4 extension for 3GP video. For the storage of MPEG-4 media specific information in 3GP files, the 3GP specification refers to MP4 and the AVC file format, which are also based on the ISO base media file format. 3GPP file format was designed for GSM-based Phones and may have the filename extension ".3gp". Designed as a multimedia format for transmitting audio and video files between 3G cell phones and over the Internet; commonly used by mobile phones that support video capture. The 3GP is structurally based on the ISO base media file format defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 - MPEG-4 Part 12, but older versions of the 3GP file format did not use some of its features.
