What is DVD?
DVD stands for Digital Versatile/Video Disc. MPEG-2 video allows 720 * 576 pixels, 704 * 576 pixels, 352 * 576 pixels, and 352 x 288 pixels, at 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency); 720 * 480 pixels, 704 * 480 pixels, 352 * 480 pixels, and 352 x 240 pixels, at 29.97 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 60 Hz image scanning frequency). The DVD specification supports disks with capacities of from 4.7GB to 17GB and access rates of 600KBps to 1.3 MBps. Subtitles are usually intended as a visual help for the deaf and hearing impaired and for translating dialogs. While all VOB files are MPEG program streams, not all MPEG program streams comply with the definition for a VOB file. These extra features can include audio commentary; documentary features, commonly about the making of the main title; deleted scenes; photo galleries; storyboards; isolated music scores; trivia text commentary; simple games; film shorts; TV spots; radio spots; theatrical trailers which were used to promote the main title; and teaser trailers advertising related movies or DVDs. Almost all DVD-Video discs use the UDF bridge format, which is a combination of the DVD MicroUDF (a subset of UDF 1.02) and ISO 9660 file systems. Some hardware players will also play DVD-ROMs or CD-ROMs containing "raw" MPEG video files; these are "unauthored" and lack the file and header structure that defines DVD-Video. MPEG-1 formats do not support interlaced video. A similar standard exists in countries using the NTSC system, though with no requirement mandating the use of or support for the MP2 format.

What is Android?
Android was originally a Linux based operating system developed by Android Inc. The Android operating system is open source, unlike Apple's secretive code, Google has chosen to give away most of the code that powers Android. Because the code is free to developers and manufacturers, it is very attractive to device manufacturers who prefer to spend their resources on manufacturing high quality devices instead of reinventing the wheel by creating a proprietary operating systems. Despite its success on smartphones, Android tablet adoption has been slow. This is primarily blamed on a chicken or the egg situation where consumers are hesitant to buy an Android tablet due to a lack of high quality tablet apps, but developers are hesitant to spend time and resources developing tablet apps until there's a significant market for them. Other factors included high prices and the dominance of Apple's iPad. This began to change in 2012 with the release of the successful Nexus 7 and a push by Google for developers to write better tablet apps. Google formed a group of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies called the Open Handset Alliance with the goal of contributing to Android development. Most members also have the goal of making money from Android, either by selling phones, phone service, or mobile applications. The Android platform was built with mobile apps firmly in mind, and these are downloadable through what's called the Android Market, which comes with every Android phone. Both free and paid apps are available, and paid apps can be purchased with a credit card. Nevertheless, Android still remains one of the most popular operating systems in the world, and the only competitor, Apple's iOS, is still placed quite at a distance in the ranks.
