What is MOD?
Video file captured with a JVC EVERIO digital camcorder, such as the EVERIO GZ-MC100, MG130, MG7230, and MG630, or with Canon FS and Panasonic D-Snap SD-card camcorders; uses MPEG2 compression for video and MPEG-1 Audio Layer II compression for the audio track. Depending on the make and model of your digital camcorder, your home videos may be saved as MOD files. High definition video is stored in MPEG-2 transport stream container files with TOD extension; in most other systems these files have M2T extension. In January 2008 Canon unveiled a family of tapeless standard definition consumer camcorders: the FS100, FS10 and FS11. All these camcorders record in MOD format. One of TOD recording modes, "1440CBR", has the same frame size, aspect ratio and frame rate as 1080i HDV, and can be loosely called "HDV on disk". If you have a JVC video camera or camcorder, you might want to save and view video clips on your personal computer. Panasonic unveiled the SDR-S100, which recorded to SD cards. The encoding scheme, data rate, frame rate and frame size closely matched parameters of DVD-video. Each file has a sequential name with last three characters comprising a hexadecimal number, which allows for 4096 unique file names. This video can be easily authored for watching on a DVD player without recompression, because it is fully compliant with DVD-video standard. As of 2011, MOD format is still being used in standard definition camcorders manufactured by JVC, Panasonic and Canon. Sony employs MPEG-2 video encoding and Program Stream container in its standard definition camcorders too, but the directory structure is different from MOD, and the media files have conventional MPG extension.

What is Android?
Android is a Linux kernel based Software platform which has been primarily developed by Google and other member companies of Open Handset Alliance. It's mainly a Mobile OS that allows third party developers to write managed code in the Java language. In 2011, Google partnered with a number of manufacturers and carriers to announce an "Android Update Alliance", pledging to deliver timely updates for every device for 18 months after its release. As of 2012, this alliance has never been mentioned since. Research company Canalys estimated in the second quarter of 2009 that Android had a 2.8% share of worldwide smartphone shipments. By the fourth quarter of 2010 this had grown to 33% of the market, becoming the top-selling smartphone platform. By the third quarter of 2011 Gartner estimated that more than half (52.5%) of the smartphone market belongs to Android. By the third quarter of 2012 Android had a 75% share of the global smartphone market according to the research firm IDC. Android devices boot to the homescreen, the primary navigation and information point on the device, which is similar to the desktop found on PCs. Android homescreens are typically made up of app icons and widgets; app icons launch the associated app, whereas widgets display live, auto-updating content such as the weather forecast, the user's email inbox, or a news ticker directly on the homescreen. A homescreen may be made up of several pages that the user can swipe back and forth between. In July 2011, Google said that 550,000 new Android devices were being activated every day, up from 400,000 per day in May, and more than 100 million devices had been activated with 4.4% growth per week. In September 2012, 500 million devices had been activated with 1.3 million activations per day.
