What is EVO?
HD-DVD and BlueRay enhanced VOB file format. The extensions are in the
form of private stream data and their interpretation. It is an extension
to VOB, which is an extension to MPEG-2 Program stream. All HD DVD titles
use UDF version 2.5 as the file system. In this file system, multiplexed
audio and video streams are stored in EVO container format. HD DVD drives
can also be used with a desktop/laptop personal computer (PC) running Windows
XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard", and many varieties
of Linux. All studio-released movie titles have featured video in a 1080-line
format, with companion supplements in 480i or 480p. Blu-ray Disc and HD
DVD share most of the same methods of encoding media onto discs with each
other, resulting in equivalent levels of audio and visual quality, but
differ in other aspects such as interactive capabilities, internet integration,
usage control and enforcement, and in which features were mandatory for
players. HD DVD-RAM has a single-layer capacity of 20 GB. Like the original
DVD format, the data layer of an HD DVD is 0.6 mm below the surface to
physically protect the data layer from damage. HD DVDs use Advanced Content
to allow interactive content to be authored for discs. Microsoft's implementation
of Advanced Content is the HDi Interactive Format, and "HDi"
is frequently used to refer to the Advanced Content system. Because all
variants except 3* DVD and HD REC employed a blue laser with a shorter
wavelength, HD DVD could store about 3.2 times as much data per layer as
its predecessor (maximum capacity: 15 GB per layer instead of 4.7 GB per
layer). There is also a hybrid HD DVD format which contains both DVD and
HD DVD versions of the same movie on a single disc, providing a smooth
transition for the studios in terms of publishing movies, and allowing
consumers with only DVD players to still use the discs.
What is iPad?
The iPad is a line of tablet computers designed and marketed by Apple Inc.
The iPad runs Apple's iOS operating system. The Wi-Fi version of the iPad
went on sale in the United States on April 3, 2010. The Wi-Fi + 3G version
was released on April 30. 3G service in the United States is provided by
AT&T and was initially sold with two prepaid contract-free data plan options:
one for unlimited data and the other for 250 MB per month at half the price.
The iPad syncs with iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC. Apple ported its iWork
suite from the Mac to the iPad, and sells pared down versions of Pages,
Numbers, and Keynote apps in the App Store. Although the iPad is not designed
to replace a mobile phone, a user can use a wired headset or the built-in
speaker and microphone and place phone calls over Wi-Fi or 3G using a VoIP
application. As of June, 2012, there were about 225,000 iPad specific apps
on the App Store. In the United States fans attending Super Bowl XLV, the
first Super Bowl since the iPad was released, could use an official National
Football League (NFL) app to navigate Cowboys Stadium. In 2011, the Tampa
Bay Buccaneers became the first NFL club to discontinue the use of paper
copies of playbooks, and instead distributed all players their playbook
and videos in electronic format via an iPad 2. Apple offers several iPad
accessories, most of which are adapters for the proprietary 30-pin dock
connector, the iPad's only port besides the headphone jack. A dock holds
the iPad upright at an angle, and has a dock connector and audio line out
port. The iPad's (first two generations) touchscreen display is a 1,024
by 768 pixel, 7.75*5.82 in (197*148 mm) liquid crystal display (diagonal
9.7 in (246.4 mm)), with fingerprint- and scratch-resistant glass. Steve
Jobs said a 7-inch screen would be "too small to express the software"
and that 10 inches was the minimum for a tablet screen. Like the iPhone,
the iPad is designed to be controlled by bare fingers; normal, non-conductive
gloves and styli do not work, although there are special gloves and capacitive
styli designed for this use.
