What is AVI?
AVI means Audio Video Interleave, is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology. One of the first terms a digital video freshman gets to know is codec. AVI files can be played by various video players, but the player must support the codec used to encode the video data. The AVI container has no native support for modern MPEG-4 features like B-Frames. The first sub-chunk is identified by the "hdrl" tag. This sub-chunk is the file header and contains metadata about the video, such as its width, height and frame rate. Most AVI files also use the file format extensions developed by the Matrox OpenDML group in February 1996. These files are supported by Microsoft, and are unofficially called "AVI 2.0". AVI is a derivative of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), which divides a file's data into blocks, or "chunks." Each "chunk" is identified by a FourCC tag. Being developed by Microsoft in 1992, it has become so wide spread that many people consider it de facto standard for storing video and audio information on PC. AVI format is one of the oldest video formtas. AVI was not intended to contain video using any compression technique which requires access to future video frame data beyond the current frame. Approaches exist to support modern video compression techniques (such as MPEG-4) which rely on this function, although this is beyond the intent of the original specification and may cause problems with playback software which does not anticipate this use. Upon creation of the file, the codec translates between raw data and the (compressed) data format used inside the chunk.

What is Android?
Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. These updates are free and are usually provided over-the-air -- this means the software is pushed to your device wirelessly, so you often don't need to plug your phone into your computer to receive the update. The timing and delivery of Android software updates depends on a number of factors including your mobile phone manufacturer, and your mobile carrier. Android is a mobile operating system or OS, which is basically the software that runs on a number of mobile devices -- generally mobile phones and tablets. The Android operating system is developed by Google and a collaboration of companies called the Open Handset Alliance (OHA). In July 2011, Google said that 550,000 new Android devices were being activated every day, up from 400,000 per day in May, and more than 100 million devices had been activated with 4.4% growth per week. In September 2012, 500 million devices had been activated with 1.3 million activations per day. Android phones are considered revolutionary in some circles because of the open source structure of the basic firmware. All developers, whether professional or hobbyists, are encouraged to write programs and applications for the operating system, and contribute to the evolving Android project by submitting them to Google's Play Store, a closed source application for Android phones. Users may then choose to download and use the applications on their phones by accessing the application library via their handsets. Some handsets use multicore processors, which are more useful for "power users" who need their phones to run multiple simultaneous operations.
