What is DAT?
Video CD (VCD) MPEG-1 movie file. By compressing both the video and audio streams, a VCD is able to hold 74 minutes of picture and sound information, nearly the same duration as a standard 79 minute audio CD. Video specifications: Codec: MPEG-1; Resolution: 352x240 (NTSC), 352x288 (PAL/SECAM); Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (NTSC), 4:3 (PAL/SECAM); Framerate: 29.97 or 23.976 frames per second (NTSC), 25 frames per second (PAL/SECAM); Bitrate: 1,150 kilobits per second; Rate Control: constant bitrate. The VCD standard was created in 1993 by Sony, Philips, Matsushita, and JVC and is referred to as the White Book standard. Though supplanted by the two aforementioned formats, VCDs are still popular, particularly in the low cost market. By the early 1990s engineers were able to digitize video signals, greatly improving storage efficiency. Because this new format could hold 83 minutes of audio and video, releasing movies on compact discs finally became a reality. This format was named Video CD or VCD. VCD video is mostly compatible with the DVD-Video standard, except for any video encoded at 23.976 frames per second, which must use 3:2 pulldown. Similarly, the audio frequency range is limited to those sounds most clearly heard by the human ear. Some Blu-ray and HD-DVD players also retain support, as do CBHD players as well. Poorly compressed VCD video can sometimes be lower quality than VHS video, but VCD exhibits block artifacts rather than analog noise, like VHS does, and does not deteriorate further with each use. Video CD players should play the video from the DAT files without having to open the files manually. 352x240 (or SIF) resolution was chosen because it is half the vertical, and half the horizontal resolution of NTSC video.

What is 3GP?
3GP is a required file format for video and associated speech/audio media types and timed text in ETSI 3GPP technical specifications for IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) and Transparent end-to-end Packet-switched Streaming Service (PSS). Designed as a multimedia format for transmitting audio and video files between 3G cell phones and over the Internet; commonly used by mobile phones that support video capture. 3GPP is the new worldwide standards for the creation, delivery and playback of multimedia over 3rd generation, high-speed wireless networks. The MP4 and the AVC file format specifications described usage of MPEG-4 content in the ISO base media file format. The 3GP is structurally based on the ISO base media file format defined in ISO/IEC 14496-12 - MPEG-4 Part 12, but older versions of the 3GP file format did not use some of its features. Some cell phones use the .mp4 extension for 3GP video. 3GPP is based on the MPEG-4 standard which was derived from Apple's QuickTime. Defined by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project and 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 respectively, these standards seek to provide uniform delivery of rich multimedia over newly evolved, broadband mobile networks (3rd generation networks) to the latest multimedia-enabled wireless devices. The Nintendo DSi supports .3gp on an SD card. For the storage of MPEG-4 media specific information in 3GP files, the 3GP specification refers to MP4 and the AVC file format, which are also based on the ISO base media file format. QuickTime 6.5 includes support for key components of the 3GPP and 3GPP2 specifications.
