PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a bitmapped image
format that employs lossless data compression. PNG was created to improve upon
and replace GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) as an image-file format not requiring
a patent license. The initialism PNG can also be interpreted as a recursive initialism
for "PNG's Not GIF".

What is M2TS?
A MPEG-2 TransportStream (.TS File), also referred to as MPEG or MPEG-2
TS, is a special format for transmitting MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4)
video muxed with other streams. It's commonly used for digital television
and Streaming across networks, including the Internet. The M2TS format
is used for compressing video data onto Blu-ray discs. They can essentially
be distributed and opened as individual video files since M2TS files contain
an MPEG-2 video codec. Unlike Programs Streams, which are optimized for
efficient storage and assume the decoder has access to the entire stream
for synchronization purposes, Transport Streams are designed for delivering
data in real time over unreliable transport media, to a device which is
assumed to start reading data from some point after the beginning of transmission.
The names of M2TS files are in the form "zzzzz.m2ts", where "zzzzz"
is a 5-digit number corresponding to the audiovisual clip. BDAV disc format
is used on BD-RE and BD-R discs for audio/video recording. M2TS format
from Sony is not necessarily the same as that of Panasonic or Canon camcorders.
Apple's Final Cut Pro can read .MTS files (as stored in Sony HDR camcorders)
by using the AVCHD plugin in the Log and Transfer window. Currently, M2TS
files can be played using the Picture Motion Browser, which is an application
video player provided with Sony AVCHD camcorders. It is used for multiplexing
audio, video and other streams. Optionally supported audio formats are
Dolby Digital Plus, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and Dolby TrueHD. This
container format is commonly used for high definition video on Blu-ray
Disc and AVCHD.
What is PNG?
Portable Network Graphics - /ping/ (PNG) An extensible file format for
the lossless, portable, well-compressed storage of raster images. PNG provides
a patent-free replacement for GIF and can also replace many common uses
of TIFF. Indexed-colour, greyscale and truecolour images are supported,
plus an optional alpha channel. Sample depths range from 1 to 16 bits.
PNG files are supported by modern web browsers. In the past only GIF and
JPG files were supported on the web. Adobe Fireworks (formerly by Macromedia)
uses PNG as its native file format, allowing other image editors and preview
utilities to view the flattened image. However, Fireworks by default also
stores meta data for layers, animation, vector data, text and effects.
Such files should not be distributed directly. Fireworks can instead export
the image as an optimized PNG without the extra meta data for use on web
pages, etc. PNG is designed for on-line viewing applications, such as the
World Wide Web, so it is fully streamable with a progressive display option.
PNG is robust, providing both full file integrity checking and simple detection
of common transmission errors. Also, PNG can store gamma correction and
chromaticity data for improved colour matching on heterogeneous platforms.
Images in the PNG image format are also smaller than their GIF counterparts,
though the higher color depth often results in larger files and the misconception
that PNG is a bulkier format. Actually, if one forces a PNG to save in
256 colors, the file will nearly always be smaller than a GIF file of the
same quality. PNG offers a variety of transparency options. With truecolor
and grayscale images either a single pixel value can be declared as transparent
or an alpha channel can be added (enabling any percentage of partial transparency
to be used). For paletted images, alpha values can be added to palette
entries. The number of such values stored may be less than the total number
of palette entries, in which case the remaining entries are considered
fully opaque.
